[2020/May – Review] KLAIRS Mid Day Blue UV Shield

Klairs just launched their newest sunscreen, the Mid Day Blue UV Shield – something we might want to try out for summer 2020.

The Mid Day Blue UV Shield is a physical sunscreen that has a semi-matte finish along with a tone up effect. Since the sunscreen works on the skin surface, it’s less likely to clog pores, and it can also stay for long hours without being swept off by sweat.

Some notable ingredients that Klairs put into this product are Zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and guaiazulene. Many people are familiar with Zinc oxide and Titanium dioxide – they are common ingredients in physical sunscreen, are great SPF to provide full protection under the sun by reflecting UV’s rays (UVA and UVB).

Guaiazulene is an antioxidant derived from chamomile oil, and it also gives off a nice natural blue coloring. Moreover, guaiazulene also has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, etc. Thus, guaiazulene appears in the ingredient lists is to help calming our skin as well as providing protection under sensitive condition that might cause irritation and redness.

ME:

I have oily to combination skin, so I love sunscreen that has semi matte finish. Because of guaiazulene, the consistency has a really nice light baby blue color. Its texture is not runny at all – feel like yogurt. So this is easy to control how much I want to apply.

The Mid Day Blue does have scent. When I first tested on my hands, it smelled like swimming pool – that pool chlorine smell, but not super strong. It blended nicely into my skin and did give off a little tone up effect – not to crazy. The final finish is semi matte. After testing out for 5 hours, the sunscreen did not cause me any irritation, and my skin did not get any chance to get greasy at all.

Definitely I will test this out with makeup, but so far, this seems like a great sunscreen for oily skin like me.

[2021/January Update] It works great under matte foundation like the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation and Revlon, but don’t forget to apply some decent moisturizer before applying this matte sunscreen and other matte foundations.

Retailed price: $23 (right now, there is a 10% off at Wishtrend.com – so it’s $20.70)
